Dual Credit Information
Rains High School students may begin taking dual-credit courses as early as sophomore year with Trinity Valley Community College and/or Texas A & M University- Commerce. Students must present with a strong academic history (GPA of 3.5 or above), successfully meet TSI entrance requirements, and meet with TVCC officials for an interview.
Students interested in taking Dual-Credit or Concurrent enrollment courses with TVCC must meet the following TSI entrance requirements:
TSI Exam
The Texas Success Initiative (TSI) was mandated by Texas law in 2003 and went into effect in September of 2003. The purpose of TSI is to ensure that all students enrolling in public higher education in Texas possess the academic skills needed to perform effectively in college-level coursework. TSI includes a testing component designed to identify and provide diagnostic information about the reading, writing and mathematics skills of each student.
Minimum scores
Reading – 351
Writing – Essay score of a 4 and MC score of a 340
Math – 350
Students may schedule a time to take the TSI at the RHS College & Career Center. RHS pays for the first TSI administration. Any subsequent administrations are $10.00 made payable to Rains High School.
